A GENTLEMAN ALONE

The gay young blades and amorous nymphets,
and long-frenzying widows of insomnious plight,
and the glowing girls, thirty hours pregnant,
and miaowed-out toms on my grounds at night:
like a ring of oysters on heat
they surround my solitary home;
like contrariants against my soul,
like conspirators dressed for bed,
trading long, wet kisses for code-words.
The radiant summer leads to lovers
in tediously tristful ranks
formed of fat and thin and sad and joyful pairs,
under elegant palms, by the ocean, beneath the moon:
an endless romp of skirts and pants,
a whisper of stocking silk caressed,
and ladies’ breasts that glisten like eyes.

The lowly employee, after so much,
after the week’s drudgery, and reading novels in bed
has no doubt seduced his neighbour, à la mode,
and taken her to the godawful movies
where the hero’s a colt or a prince,
and stroked the soft down of her sweet legs
with ardent, clammy hands smelling of cigs.

Seducers’ evenings and husbands’ nights
knit like twin sheets to swathe round me,
and the after-lunch hours when freshmen and
freshgirls and priests make love by hand,
and the animals breed without ado,
and bees smell of blood, and flies hum, testily,
and cousins play, estrangedly, with cousins,
and doctors fume at the husband of the stricken girl;
and the morning hours when the professor, how negligent,
blends breakfast with conjugal duties,
and worse still, the adulterers that love with true love
on beds, long and high, like cruise boats:
assuredly, eternally it surrounds me
this great jungle, branching and breathing
with massive flowers like mouths and teeth
and black roots like toenails and shoes.

CABALLERO SOLO

Los jóvenes homosexuales y las muchachas amorosas,
y las largas viudas que sufren el delirante insomnio,
y las jóvenes señoras preñadas hace treinta horas,
y los roncos gatos que cruzan mi jardín en tinieblas,
como un collar de palpitantes ostras sexuales
rodean mi residencia solitaria,
como enemigos establecidos contra mi alma,
como conspiradores en traje de dormitorio
que cambiaran largos besos espesos por consigna.

El radiante verano conduce a los enamorados
en uniformes regimientos melancólicos,
hechos de gordas y flacas y alegres y tristes parejas:
bajo los elegantes cocoteros, junto al océano y la luna
hay una continua vida de pantalones y polleras,
un rumor de medias de seda acariciadas,
y senos femeninos que brillan como ojos.

El pequeño empleado, después de mucho,
después del tedio semanal, y las novelas leídas de noche,
en cama,
ha definitivamente seducido a su vecina,
y la lleva a los miserables cinematógrafos
donde los héroes son potros o príncipes apasionados,
y acaricia sus piernas llenas de dulce vello
con sus ardientes y húmedas manos que huelen a cigarrillo.

Los atardeceres del seductor y las noches de los esposos
se unen como dos sábanas sepultándome,
y las horas después del almuerzo en que los jóvenes estudiantes,
y los jóvenes estudiantes, y los sacerdotes se masturban,
y los animales fornican directamente,
y las abejas huelen a sangre, y las moscas zumban coléricas,
y los primos juegan extrañamente con sus primas,
y los médicos miran con furia al marido de la joven paciente,

Because we don’t know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can’t even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless.

I have been really sick for a week (my 2-year-old son also, in fact, he has brought the flu home from kindergarten)It’s the first time in years that the disease has forced me to lie in bed without doing anything, apart from reading (not for more than 15 minutes in a row or dizziness and headache became unbearable) and thinking.I’ve had a lot of time to think about what I have, what I do not want to forget, what is important and what is not.Of the first two days in which I began to feel well, this painting was born.As I did, I thought of plants sprouting slowly at the end of winter (when it is still wet and something cold but there are more hours of light as I had seen years ago in the United Kingdom )You could also see a set of cells regenerating.The result seems unusual and a little different to what I’ve been doing for the last 12-14 months, maybe this is the beginning of a new path … or not

He estado realmente enfermo por una semana (mi hijo de 2 años también, de hecho el a traído la gripe a casa desde la guardería)Es la primera vez en mucho tiempo que la enfermedad me ha obligado a estar tendido en la cama sin poder hacer absolutamente nada, aparte de leer (no por mas de 15 minutos seguidos o los mareos y el dolor de cabeza se volvían insoportables ) y pensar.He tenido muchos dias para pensar en lo que tengo, lo que no quiero olvidar, lo que es importante y lo que no lo es.De los dos primeros días en los que empecé a encontrarme bien nació este cuadro.Mientras lo hacia, pensaba en plantas brotando lentamente al final del invierno (cuando todavía es húmedo y algo frió pero ya hay mas horas de luz tal como había visto años atrás en Reino Unido)También podría verse un conjunto de células regenerandose.El resultado me parece inusual y un poco diferente a lo que llevo haciendo por los últimos 12-14 meses, tal vez esto sea el principio de un nuevo camino… o no.

During my last exhibition at the Premarts gallery, I painted in front of about twenty people, without any previous plan, only inspired by the music of the harmonium of Denis. http://www.denis-andre.net/home.htm

One in front of the other, waiting for feedback.

Denis would play what he could see in my painting, I would paint what I could see in his music.

The result was very inspiring and really cathartic, I was not aware of what I painted until I saw it finished.At the end of the 40-minute performance, that for me was about 40 seconds, I was dizzy and tired but satisfied.Three paintings that danced with music (as a curiosity one of them would be stolen the next day)One of the spectators approached me and told me that the performance had reminded her of a poem by Pablo Neruda “The Poetry”

And it was at that age … Poetry arrived in search of me. I don’t know, I don’t know where it came from, from winter or a river. I don’t know how or when, no they were not voices, they were not words, nor silence, but from a street, I was summoned, from the branches of night, abruptly from the others, among violent fires or returning alone, there I was without a face and it touched me. I did not know what to say, my mouth had no way with names, my eyes were blind, and something started in my soul, fever or forgotten wings, and I made my own way, deciphering that fire, and I wrote the first faint line, faint, without substance, pure nonsense, pure wisdom of someone who knows nothing, and suddenly I saw the heavens unfastened and open, planets, palpitating plantations, shadow perforated, riddled with arrows, fire, and flowers, the winding night, the universe. And I, infinitesimal being, drunk with the great starry void, likeness, image of mystery, felt myself a pure part of the abyss, I wheeled with the stars, my heart broke loose on the wind.

Durante mi ultima exposición en la galería Premarts pinte en directo enfrente de unas veinte personas,sin ningún tipode plan previo, solo inspirado por la música del armonio de Denis.http://www.denis-andre.net/home.htm

Uno enfrente del otro, esperando retroalimentarnosDenis tocaría lo que viera en mi pintura, yo pintaría lo que pudiera ver en su música.El resultado fue muy inspirador y realmente catártico, no fui consciente de lo que pinte hasta que lo vi terminado.Al final de la actuación de 40 minutos que para mi fueron como 40 segundos, me encontraba mareado y cansado pero satisfecho.Tres pinturas que bailaban con la música (como curiosidad una de ellas seria robada al día siguiente)Una de las espectadoras se acerco y me dijo que la actuación le había recordado a un poema de Pablo Neruda “La poesía”

LA POESÍA

y fue a esa edad… Llegó la poesía
a buscarme. No sé, no sé de dónde
salió, de invierno o río.
No sé cómo ni cuándo,
no, no eran voces, no eran
palabras, ni silencio,
pero desde una calle me llamaba,
desde las ramas de la noche,
de pronto entre los otros,
entre fuegos violentos
o regresando solo,
allí estaba sin rostro
y me tocaba.

Yo no sabía qué decir, mi boca
no sabía
nombrar,
mis ojos eran ciegos,
y algo golpeaba en mi alma,
fiebre o alas perdidas,
y me fui haciendo solo,
descifrando
aquella quemadura,
y escribí la primera línea vaga,
vaga, sin cuerpo, pura
tontería,
pura sabiduría
del que no sabe nada,
y vi de pronto
el cielo
desgranado
y abierto,
planetas,
plantaciones palpitantes,
la sombra perforada,
acribillada
por flechas, fuego y flores,
la noche arrolladora, el universo.

Y yo, mínimo ser,
ebrio del gran vacío
constelado,
a semejanza, a imagen
del misterio,
me sentí parte pura
del abismo,
rodé con las estrellas,
mi corazón se desató en el viento.

From 8 February to 14 I will make an exhibition with some of the works I have done in the last 3 years at the Premarts Gallery http://premarts.de/ Oppelner Str. 3410997 Berlin (near Görlitzer Park)

As usual, there will be collaborations with other artist friends, live music, a stick and poke tattoo studio and more things that will be adding to the program slowly.

The opening will be on February 8 at 5:00 pm, from 9 to 14 February the exhibition will be open from 12:00 am to 20:00 pm. and admission is free.
On February 10 I will give a sculpture workshop recycling the garbage that we will look for in the streets adjoining the gallery.

The workshop is free and only 1 euro will be asked for material (basically screws, glue, and rope)
